Two men have been fatally shot by the police in an area known as Zambia in Central Village, St. Catherine that is under curfew.

Head of Police for St. Catherine South, Senior Superintendent Clive Blair, says about 10:45 this morning, a police team was on patrol in the area when they were allegedly fired on by armed men.

According to SSP Blair, the lawmen returned the fire and two men were shot.

The unidentified men were reportedly taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead.

Two hand guns were allegedly recovered from the scene of the fatal shooting.

Investigations continue.

Tensions have been high in the Central Village community in recent times following a number of murders over the last few days.

A curfew that was imposed over the weekend is still in effect and is due to end at 6 this evening.
