Acting Mayor of Portmore, Leon Thomas, says a four month extension has been granted for persons who’ve yet to get their buildings regularized with the municipality.
The Portmore Municipal Council announced the extension yesterday.
This will allow persons who’ve have built structures in the municipality without the relevant permits to be regularized without penalty.
The amnesty was first issued in December 2015 and set to end in March of this year.
The amnesty will now end on October 19. Mayor Thomas says there will be no further extension.
He warned that those who fail to use the amnesty will be take to court. Approximately 500 residents have so far taken advantage of the amnesty.
