Repair works are advancing steadily at Burnt Savannah Primary School in St Elizabeth.

Work began on Friday, almost 10 months after Hurricane Melissa devastated the institution.

Vice Principal, Gary Johnson, provided an update to our news centre on Monday.

The start of repairs followed an outcry from parents and the school administration about the lack of work being done ahead of the new school year on September 7.

When our news team visited the school last Thursday, the contractor was not on site.

Instead, we saw several roofless buildings, zinc strewn across the compound and several pieces of board with nails protruding.

Burnt Savannah Primary has a population of over 300 students.
