Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of the RJR Gleaner Communications Group, Dr. Lawrence Nicholson, says the Board of the media entity has expressed its disappointment and reprimanded its Chairman, Joseph M. Matalon.

Mr. Matalon has been receiving backlash on social media after he featured in PNP Presidential aspirant Mark Golding’s campaign launch on Sunday and endorsed Mr. Golding’s bid for the PNP Presidency.

Dr. Nicholson says the RJR Gleaner Board met yesterday after it became aware of backlash on social media and reprimanded its Chairman.

According to Dr. Nicholson, the Board accepted Mr. Matalon’s explanation that he did not intend to bring the media entity into disrepute and had in fact endorsed Mr. Golding in his personal capacity.

Dr. Nicholson says after seeking to explain himself, Mr. Matalon recused himself from the meeting of the Board while the rest of the Directors considered the issue.

He says the Board decided not to request that its Chairman resign for endorsing the PNP Presidential aspirant.
