Title winning captain of the Jamaica Tallawahs, Rovman Powell has been traded to the Barbados Royal for the upcoming 2023 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League, CPL, season.
The move was first reported yesterday by Nationwide Sports.
In a statement this morning, the CPL said fellow West Indies cricketer Hayden Walsh will be moving in the opposite direction as part of the trade.
When contacted by Nationwide Sport yesterday Tallawahs CEO, Jeff Miller, denied knowledge of the move.
But Powell wrote an emotional goodbye to Tallawahs fans on his Instagram account this morning.
Powell said it is with a heavy heart that his times with the three-time champions has ended. He said despite this he’s looking forward to joining the Royals, but he’ll cherish the memories created with the Jamaican franchise.

Powell has played for his hometown team since 2016. Powell, who was recently named captain or the T20 West Indies team, led the Tallawahs to their third CPL title last season.
During his time with the Tallawahs, he’s scored 1,337 runs and won two titles.
Walsh has played for the Royals since 2019. The leg spin bowler was the Player of the Tournament title in his debut season.
Meanwhile, the CPL says its draft show will be broadcast in late June 2023 with the tournament set to get underway on August 16.
