President of the Jamaica Olympic Association, Christopher Samuda, says hosting the Olympic Games represents a major achievement for any country.

Samuda says he is not surprised that seven countries are currently seeking the opportunity to host the Games.

South Africa, Hungary, India, Qatar and Turkey are seeking to become first-time Olympic hosts, while Germany and South Korea are in discussions with the International Olympic Committee after previously staging Summer Olympic Games.

Samuda says hosting the Olympics requires a significant financial commitment and involves complex logistical planning.

He says the countries seeking to host the Games for the first time will be eager to demonstrate that they have the capacity to successfully stage the global sporting event.
