Dancehall entertainer, Squash, is to be released from federal prison in less than 30 days.

This, as the Federal Bureau of Prisons in the United States has revised the date to October 27.

The St James native, whose given name is Andrae Maurice Whittaker, was sentenced to 27 months in prison on federal gun charges last November.

Shortly after starting his sentence, he filed suit against the Bureau of Prisons claiming he was being denied the opportunity to participate in sentence reduction programmes. He later withdrew the challenge after the sentence started to be reduced.

At the time of his filing, his release date had been set for May 2027. That means his sentence has been shaved by almost six months.

Though the entertainer has benefited from sentence reductions, his time before the court is not yet over.

When he pleaded guilty to being an alien in possession of a firearm, he acknowledged that admitting to the charge could see him deported.

An immigration judge will ultimately decide on his removal after his release.

Squash got married to a US citizen while he was being held by Immigration and Customs Enforcement on a separate issue in 2024.
