An unidentified man was shot and killed by unknown assailants on St John’s Road in Spanish Town, St Catherine Tuesday night.
The St Catherine North Police says the incident occurred at 8:40 pm.
It marked the first murder in the division in 41 days.
Commanding officer, Senior Superintendent Hopton Nicholson, shared the statistic during a special management meeting on Tuesday.
SSP Nicholson says the historic achievement reflects zero homicides for the entire month of August.
He says it was accomplished through a strategic blend of excellence in intelligence, strategic operational output, astute investigations, and strong community partnership.
According to the latest data from the Jamaica Constabulary Force, St Catherine North recorded 21 homicides between January 1 and August 29. That’s 15 fewer than the 36 recorded during the corresponding period last year.
As far as major crimes, the division has recorded a 42 per cent reduction since the start of the year.
In the meantime, SSP Nicholson says the division has also seen a 190 per cent increase in the rate at which crimes are cleared up.
