The state-owned bus company, Jamaica Urban Transit Company JUTC, is warning motorists not to use the dedicated lanes on Mandela Highway.
The bus lanes are in place every morning between 6 and 8 o’clock, from Mondays to Fridays.
Marketing and Communications Manager at the JUTC, Reginald Allen, says they’ve noticed that for some time now, private motorists and public passenger vehicle operators have been using the bus lanes.
Mr. Allen says this creates serious risks, which many motorists may not even be aware of.
He says motorists infringing on bus lanes tend to do so at breakneck speeds to get to Six Miles, before being detected by police.
Mr. Allen pointed that motorists who end up in collisions along the JUTC bus lanes will not be able to make a claim to their insurance providers.
