National Security Minister Dr Horace Chang says Jamaica’s education system is designed to keep males at the bottom of the socioeconomic ladder.
The minister notes that while the country is faced with numerous challenges involving young men, it has also partly failed to recognise that the education system is tailored to suppress males.
Dr Chang says the country has not done enough to address the issue.
The minister made the assertion during his remarks at a road renaming ceremony held in his St James North Western constituency yesterday.
Noting that there is currently a challenge with education for males and space for boys in St James, the government is currently working on creating a secondary school on 25 acres of land in Norwood.
Also, as part of a push to give males a second chance, Dr Chang says in his St James North Western constituency, a number of training institutions have been created.
