Advertisers are seeking any assurances from TikTok as its Chief Executive Officer Shou Zi Chew testifies before Congress for the first time on Thursday.

Advertisers will be closely watching his appearance for news as well as the reaction of lawmakers.

The viral app that helped usher in a wave of short-form video across social media, is again facing a potential ban in the U.S. over national security concerns.

Mr Chew is likely to face a barrage of questions on TikTok’s relationship with China, what data it collects, and what it does with it.

He’ll also be quizzed on why several journalists were spied on by ByteDance employees – something TikTok has already admitted.

Mr Chew’s expected to say user data is safe – away from the reach of the Chinese government.

Politicians from all sides want to see the platform either sold – or outright banned in the US.
