The island of Tobago has recorded its first lab-confirmed case of Dengue fever for 2024.
In a statement on Sunday night, the island’s Division of Health noted that the Tobago Regional Health Authority had flagged the suspected case and sent a sample to be tested.
The positive result was confirmed on July 5.
The division is encouraging residents to take the case seriously as numbers could increase amid increased rainfall from Hurricane Beryl which affected the region last week.
It notes that the virus is preventable and says residents should ensure there are no mosquito breeding sites within and around their premises.
