Two school leaders are saying though their institutions provide uniforms for purchase in-house, it is not mandatory for parents to buy them.
Speaking on Nationwide at Five on Tuesday, acting principal for Mineral Heights Primary, Royon Dingwall, says uniforms sold by the school are cheaper than options outside.

Speaking on Cliff Hughes Online on Tuesday, Education Minister, Senator Dr. Dana Morris Dixon, said parents should not be forced to buy uniforms from schools.
Her comment was in response to a caller who reported that a secondary school in St. Catherine was forcing parents to purchase uniform shirts with crests directly from the institution.
The caller said the price of one shirt was $3,000, a sum she says is almost the same for a full suit outside.
York Castle High in St. Ann is another school that gives parents the option of purchase uniforms either at the school or outside.
School principal, Raymond Treasure, told our news centre that the school collaborates with nearby companies in an effort to boost the local economy.
