The Tourism Ministry is seeking to clarify what some are calling a ban on travel to Jamaica and other nations from the United Kingdom.

The UK announced recently that twelve countries have been placed on its green list for travel, meaning people will not have to quarantine upon their return from those nations.

But the UK has also listed some countries on its red and amber lists.

People who travel to those countries would require quarantine upon their return.

Delano Seiveright is Senior Strategist in the local Tourism Ministry spoke with our news center this afternoon.

He says Jamaica is listed in the amber category.

He says after May 17 new travel policies will be implemented in the UK.

The UK-based Office for National Statistics says fewer than one in 1,000 people in the UK have coronavirus.

In the meantime, Mr Seiveright is dismissing claims that the Jamaican government is prioritizing tourists over local citizens in its decision not to extend the travel ban on flights to and from the UK.
