The Universal Service Fund, USF, is refuting as misguided and slanderous claims that it has bungled the tablets in school initiative.

The claims were made by Central Manchester Member of Parliament and Opposition Spokesman on Education, Peter Bunting, in the House of Representative this week.

The USF is an agency under the Ministry of Science, Energy and Technology, MSET

It is mandated to ensure access to information and communication tools to facilitate development.

In a statement last evening, the USF said Mr. Bunting’s assertions were unfounded becasue it isn’t responsible for the procurement of tablets for the Education Ministry.

According to the USF, it’s only responsible for financing the tablets in schools and tablets for teachers projects, but not the execution of them.

It says all matters relating to the procurement of the devices are the responsibility of another government entity, e-Learning Jamaica Company Limited, which also falls under the purview of MSET.

The USF says it’s disappointed that such misinformation has been shared in the public space, causing damage to its brand.

And, it’s imploring all public officials to exercise due diligence and conduct the necessary checks prior to making public statements.
