President of the University Of the West Indies Guild at Mona, Sujae Boswell, says tuition fees for students in some faculties will increase despite the economic impact of Covid-19 on the population.

Mr. Boswell told Nationwide News that the announcement was not expected, because the University said earlier this month that tuition fees would not increase.

He added that the fluctuation in the US Dollar increased the tuition fee for some programs at the university:

Mr Boswell says some students will take a leave of absence if the exorbitant fees stand.

He pointed out that several students cannot pay their tuition fee because they did not participate in the Students Work and Travel Program this year:
