Independent Candidate for North West St. Ann, Peter Shand, claims he turned down a request from Senior PNP Officials including Party President Dr. Peter Phillips to run in the neighbouring North East St. Ann Constituency.

Mr. Shand says the PNP approached him after he decided to run in the constituency against the incumbent, Dr. Dayton Campbell.

Speaking this afternoon Mr. Shand says he rejected this proposal as he believes Dr. Campbell has been a poor representative for the constituency.

Chevon Campbell has that story.

Mr. Shand, speaking on Cliff Hughes Online, says Dr. Phillips personally sat with him in an attempt to persuade him not to run in the constituency.

However, he refused to reveal when these discussions took place.

A former PNP supporter Mr. Shand’s independent candidacy represents a serious threat to Dr. Campbell retaining the constituency which was won by the PNP in 2016 with a margin of just 365 votes.

The independent, has strong ties with the community and operates a business in the neighbouring constituency.

He says Dr. Campbell has been a poor representative.

Mr. Shand says it’s not his deliberate attempt to hurt the PNP. However, he says he will not be convinced to run outside of the constituency.

Attempts to contact PNP General Secretary, Julian Robinson several times for comment were unsuccessful.
