Members of the Parliament’s Public Administration and Appropriations Committee, PAAC, have expressed concern that a $700-million pilot project to reverify the country’s voters’ list has been removed from this fiscal year’s budget.

Deputy Financial Secretary, Lorris Jarrett, told the PAAC that the funding was removed to provide priority to more critical areas.

She says with three months to go, it wasn’t likely the re-verification would begin in this financial year.

Member of Parliament for East Kingston, Phillip Paulwell, found the elimination ironic due to utterances by Finance Minister Audley Shaw in the run up to last year’s General Elections.

PAAC Chairman, Dr. Wykeham McNeill, says it will be recommended to the Parliament that the matter be reconsidered.
