Water levels at the two major storage facilities for potable and irrigation sources of water in the Corporate Area continue to decline.

Both the Hermitage Dam and Mona Reservoir in St. Andrew are still below 50 percent. This despite recent rainfall in areas which supply both facilities.

As of September 29, the Mona Reservoir was at 33 percent of capacity. The Hermitage Dam stood at 40 percent of its 393 million gallon capacity.

The declining inflows are a result of worsening drought conditions across the island.

The dry period is also being impacted by the ongoing El Nino phenomenon, which is expected to extend into 2027.

As a result, Principal Director at the Met Service, Evan Thompson, provided a bleak rainfall prediction during OPM on Air on Tuesday.
