Residents of Ricketts Street in Westmoreland are lamenting the rampant crime and violence in the communities currently under the Zone of Special Operations.

One resident, who’s been living in the area for over 60 years, said the current crime situation in the town is the worst she has ever seen.

Another resident argued that for years, there have been calls for a security post to be established at the old Westmoreland Municipal Corporation Roads and Works Department.

For his part, Officer in charge of the Westmoreland Police Division, Senior Superintendent Robert Gordon, noted that the communities under the ZOSO are currently at a critical juncture.

SSP Gordon is urging residents not to protect the criminals.

He’s also imploring residents to assist the police in finding illegal weapons.
