Member of Parliament for South Central St. Catherine, Dr. Andrew Wheatley, says he will vigorously defend his reputation following a recommendation by the Integrity Commission, IC, that he be charged with illicit enrichment.

He made the pronouncement by way of a personal explanation in the House of Representatives on Wednesday.

Dr Andrew Wheatley.

Dr. Wheatley was stopped short in his intervention, following a ruling by the House Speaker, Juliet Holness, that he avoid controversial pronouncements impacting other individuals or entities.

His explanation followed the tabling of an IC investigation report in the House of Representatives on Wednesday.

The investigation concerned Dr Wheatley’s earnings, acquisition of assets and sale of assets over the period December 31, 2013, to December 31, 2022.

The Commission ruled that his lawful earnings did not match his assets over the period.

The IC has also recommended the MP be charged with knowingly making a false statement in a statutory declaration, and failing, without reasonable cause, to provide any information the Director of Information and Complaints may require.

Dr. Wheatley is the minister with responsibility for science, technology and special projects.
