An assassination attempt was foiled by an off-duty member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force in Old Harbour, St Catherine on Friday afternoon.

Nationwide Online understands the would-be assassin was shot and killed during his failed hit-job.

Reports are the masked gun man approached two men in conversation on a busy street in Old Harbour and opened fire.

Preliminary reports indicate one of the two men was struck in the upper body. However, the second man, who is an off-duty policeman challenged the assailant striking him several times all over the body.

The failed hitman was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Videos of the aftermath of incident have been circulating on social media.

In the videos, the bloodied body of the man identified as the attempted hitman was seen lying on the floor. The masked man was wearing a grey hooded shirt, blue jeans and a pair black sneakers.

On duty members of the constabulary quickly cordoned the scene before taking the injured man to the hospital.

At the time of publication, the status of the target of the attack was unknown.
