Government Senator and former National Security Minister, KD Knight, says under the current circumstances Police Commissioner, Owen Ellington, should be taken at his word regarding the reasons for his sudden retirement.

Last Monday, National Security Minister, Peter Bunting revealed that in a letter, Commissioner Ellington cited the upcoming West Kingston Commission of Enquiry as contributing to his decision to retire early.

The Commissioner also reportedly referred to investigations into allegations that there’s a so-called death squad operating inside the Jamaica Constabulary Force, JCF, as among his reasons.

The Police Commissioner and his attorney have also refused to confirm or deny that his United States visa has been canceled.

This has intensified speculation regarding whether Commissioner Ellington gave full details concerning why he’s retiring nearly 10 years early, at the age of 51.

Mr. Knight says he has no reason to disbelieve Owen Ellington.
