Eighteen more COVID-19 deaths were recorded in the Health Ministry’s latest update.

This brings the number of fatalities from the virus to 1,637.

The deaths occurred over a 4 day period between September 1 and 4.

The majority of the deaths are from St. Mary and Kingston and St. Andrew.

According to the Ministry, 8 of the deaths are still under investigation.

Meanwhile, 643 confirmed cases were recorded.

This brings the total number of positive cases on the island to 71,9 87.

1,387 samples were tested, representing a positivity rate of 43.7 percent.

The number of active cases stands at 20, 967.

There were 114 recoveries.

This brings the number of recoveries to 48,921.

The number of hospitalizations is now at 699.

175 are moderately ill, one hundred and 21 are severely ill and 53 are critical.
