Jamaican authorities have successfully collaborated with United States Homeland Security to prosecute a Jamaican man for posting nude photos of his American ex-girlfriend online.
Fifty-three year old Donovan Powell pleaded guilty to the crimes in the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish court yesterday.
He’s to be sentenced in November.
More than two years ago, Powell’s ex-girlfriend, Darieth Chisholm, a former NBC News anchor in Pittsburgh made a complaint to Jamaican authorities.
Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, Andrea Martin Swaby, says Powell pleaded guilty to three charges under the Cyber Crime Act of 2015.
Swaby says Powell was charged for sending malicious content to the complainant . Powell also allegedly posted lewd images of the victim on a website he created.
The Deputy DPP says the Jamaica Constabulary Force, JCF, and the Office of the DPP collaborated on the investigation.
She says malicious communication is a serious offence and can be considered abusive behaviour.
