Prime Minister Andrew Holness says Jamaica and China are discussing options designed to facilitate greater exchange of people between the two countries.
Mr. Holness says both nations are looking to elevate the existing relationship into a strategic partnership.
The Prime Minister met with President of China, Xi Jingping and mayor of Shanghai, Ying Yong.
Today, is the second day of Prime Minister Holness’ nine-day working visit to the Asian country.
He says bilateral relations between Jamaica and China are vibrant, healthy and strong.
Prime Minister Holness says among the issues discussed is an increase in the exchange of people between Jamaica and China.
He says this would be done through various cultural and educational programmes.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Holness says Jamaica can learn from the best practices being used at the Yangshan Port, in Shanghai, as Jamaica seeks to expand its port and logistics operations.
The port is the largest cargo port in the world.
It represents the fourth and final phase of the Yangshan Port.
