Youth arm of the governing JLP, Young Jamaica, says it notes with concern the uncomfortable timeline surrounding what it describes as an elaborate media conference staged by PNP President, Dr. Peter Phillips and the arrest of the former Education Minister, Ruel Reid.

Young Jamaica says it’s concerned by what it says is the unprecedented step taken by Dr. Phillips to publicly exert political pressure on the country’s law enforcement agencies.

On Monday, the Opposition Leader threatened protests if the government did not provide a status report on ongoing corruption investigations within 30-days.

The JLP youth affiliate group says the elaborate arrest of Reid with the media present appeared staged.

Young Jamaica says it is also of concern that media entities were alerted to the pre-dawn raids, even though the country’s chief prosecutor, the DPP, was not advised of the pending arrests.

The group says Dr. Phillips and the PNP appear prepared to breach longstanding principles of non-interference in law enforcement activities in order to achieve their purely political motives.

Young Jamaica President, Howard Chamberlain, is also chiding PNPYO President, Krystal Tomlinson for what he says is Tomlinson’s misguided call yesterday for the resignation of Justice Minister, Delroy Chuck.
