Guyana’s president, Dr Irfaan Ali, has proposed to use artificial intelligence as a resource to accelerate equitable economic growth, reduce disparities and address key global challenges.

Guyana’s leader says the Fifth Industrial Revolution, which focuses on human-AI collaboration, may arrive sooner than expected.

He made the statement during the keynote address during the Berkeley Innovation Forum at Ames Research Centre in California, in the US.

He noted that while historical industrial revolutions have brought minimal benefits, it has further widened the gap between developed and developing nations.

To this end, he said AI should not be dominated by a few nations or corporations but should be accessible to everyone.

Dr Ali says AI development must be deployed as a force for the common good, and should prioritise equity and inclusion over profit and power.
