Following its clean up of the Palisadoes Go Cart Track in Kingston on the weekend, Jamaica Environment Trust, JET, says a massive effort is needed to rid the country’s coasts of garbage.
CEO of JET, Dr. Theresa Rodriguez-Moodie, made the comment during an interview with Nationwide News last Saturday, amid the observation of International Coastal Cleanup Day.
The theme for International Coastal Cleanup Day was ‘Sea the Change’.
Workers from several entities including the National Solid Waste Management Authority, NSWMA, and National Water Commission participated in clean up activities along the coast line at select locations.
Johnson Town Beach in Hanover was the focus of the NSWMA, through its western regional arm.
The NWC focused on Lilliput Beach in St. James and Lyssons Beach in St. Thomas.
Dr. Rodriguez-Moodie wants the authorities to do more to address harmful plastics.
