State Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Senator Abka Fitz-Henley, is describing as a seismic achievement the fact that for the first time since independence in 1962, Jamaica is set to record four consecutive years of a decline in murders.
Minister Fitz-Henley, who has charge of the Office of the Prime Minister’s communication department, was addressing a staff retreat at Terra Nova Hotel in St. Andrew on Wednesday.
He noted that the number of murders is down by 24 per cent so far this year. It declined by 43 per cent in 2025, 18 per cent in 2024 and eight per cent in 2023.
Minister Fitz-Henley says the critics of the government work daily to create and spread false narratives around the work of the administration.
He says some of those reminded the team that false narratives will be successfully repelled if the government reiterates its policies, plans and achievements.
Meanwhile, Minister Fitz-Henley says the government must not be coy about highlighting the work it has done in response to Hurricane Melissa, given that there are people whose daily mission is to tell lies.
