More civilians were killed in interactions with the security forces in April than in any other month since the start of the year.
That’s according to the latest update from the Independent Commission of Investigations, INDECOM.
It says 39 fatal shootings were recorded in the fourth month of the calendar year.
But despite April’s spike, fatal shootings have generally declined in the months since, with August recording the lowest number at 19.
Overall, 199 people were fatally shot by the security forces between January 1 and September 1.
That’s 13 fewer than the 212 recorded during the corresponding period last year.
The monthly breakdown shows 28 in January, 23 in February, 25 in March and 39 fatal shootings in April.
INDECOM says the figure dipped to 24 in May, while both June and July recorded 20 each.
One fatal shooting has been recorded so far in September.
Notably, the declines recorded in the months since April are also lower than the corresponding monthly figures recorded last year.
In 2025, 25 civilians were killed in police interactions in May, 26 in June, 28 in July and 20 in August.
