President Obama says debt write-offs aren’t the best solution for countries in Jamaica’s economic situation.
He was responding to the question of whether the United States was contemplating any kind of debt write-off for Jamaica in light of the country’s good performance under the current IMF programme.
The question was posed at the town hall meeting held at the UWI with young Caribbean leaders.
Mr. Obama says the best way to address Jamaica’s economic problems is to achieve sustainable growth.

And President Obama says the government should work on creating a sound growth strategy.
He says multilateral partners like the IMF should also seek to accommodate such a sound growth plan.
