Justice Minister, Delroy Chuck, says a threat by the Prime Minister of Barbados, Fruendel Stuart, to withdraw from the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ), if he’s re-elected to office, vindicates the decision by the Holness-administration not to join the regional court in its final appellate jurisdiction.

Prime Minister Stuart made the threat at a political meeting in Barbados on Saturday.

He cited disrespect from the CCJ and also complained about the limited number of cases brought before the regional court.

Minister Chuck says he believes that a decision by the CCJ to allow Professor Eddie Ventose to vote in the upcoming Barbados election may have upset the Barbados Prime Minister.

Mr. Chuck is reiterating that Jamaica will not join the CCJ in its final appellate jurisdiction unless the ability of a territory to withdraw from the Court becomes more difficult.
