The Barbados Manufacturers’ Association, BMA, is calling on CARICOM to make it much easier to get raw materials and production equipment shipped to the region.
The call comes as global supply chain issues continue to hamper the local manufacturing sector.
BMA President, John Marshall says securing orders for production equipment and raw materials has been a daunting process in recent times.
He argued that with the disruption in the supply chain, most equipment suppliers now give a minimum of a one year to wait for the delivery of goods.
Mr. Marshall noted that raw material suppliers are expecting buyers to place orders six months in advance.
He also argued that the prices are constantly increasing.
Mr. Marshall was speaking after the launch of the BMA’s new Trade and Innovation Summit 2022 at the Hilton Barbados Resort.
