Opposition Spokesman on Education, Dr. Angela Brown-Burke, says Jamaica’s education system has not done well for the nation’s boys.

She’s calling for a breakdown of student performance throughout the pandemic, particularly disaggregated by gender.

She was making her sectoral presentation in the House of Representatives earlier this week.

The education spokesman also chided the ministry for suggesting legal action be taken against parents of the thousands of children who remain out of school. She says in many instances the dire financial situation of families leaves them with no other choice.

Meanwhile, Dr Brown Burke is criticising the limited amount being spent on capital expenditure for education. She says the government’s budget for education is one of inaction.
