Co Chairman of the Economic Oversight Committee EPOC, Richard Byles, says he hopes the nation will not be distracted by impending Local Government elections.
On Tuesday, PNP General Secretary, Paul Burke, confirmed to Nationwide News that Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller wants to hold Local Government election before the end of June this year.
Mr. Byles says although elections are necessary, the country should focus on the greater matter at hand which is the state of the economy.
Finance Minister Dr. Peter Phillips has indicated that he’s confident Jamaica will pass a 7th consecutive quarterly test under the four year programme with the IMF.
Nationwide News bas been informed that there are persons in the PNP who did not want a local Government election this year because of the expense of the exercise.
Mr. Byles says if elections are called, it should not disturb the process of growing the economy.
