National security minister, Dr Horace Chang, says the use of technology and modern equipment plays a critical role in ensuring the Jamaica Constabulary Force, JCF, gets to where it needs to be.
He was speaking at the handing over ceremony for a suite of communication equipment to the JCF on Wednesday.
Minister Chang says police are not only better equipped but they are also more empowered and more productive in holding offenders accountable.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensure that the JCF is fully digitised to better carry out their function.
He emphasised the value of technology in aiding the police in getting a grip on crime, noting that it is having a direct impact on the police efforts in reigning in criminal elements across the country.
The country has recorded a 40 per cent reduction in murder and a 21 per cent reduction in other major crimes since the start of the year.
In his recent sectoral debate, Dr Chang says the gains are a result of a combination of investments in security infrastructure, improvement in human capital, improved training and strategic measures aimed at dismantling gangs and securing communities.
