Chief Medical Officer Dr Jacquiline Bisasor McKenzie, says while Jamaica is not yet at that stage, there’s a possibility that persons could be re-infected with the novel coronavirus.
The US-based Centres for Disease Control says the immune response, including duration of immunity, to COVID-19 is not yet understood.
And it says it’s not yet clear the level of immune protection that will be observed for patients with COVID-19.
She says based on observation of positive cases, it takes up to a month’s time before persons are tested negative.
But she says it’s not yet clear if persons are infectious at that stage even though they are still positive.
