Due to fears associated with the spread of the novel coronavirus, parents of students attending the Hopefield Preparatory School in St Andrew have been asked to keep their children at home, if they or their children travel overseas.

The request was outlined in a health notice sent to parents today.

In the notice, the school says, quote, “In view of the increased global occurrences of the coronavirus and in an effort to be proactive rather than reactive, we ask that anyone travelling off the island please keep your child or children at home for two weeks or 14 days upon your or their return to Jamaica.”

According to Hopefield Prep, the safety and well-being of its students is at the vanguard of its decision.

When contacted by our news centre, the Education Ministry wasn’t immediately able to provide a response as to whether it was aware of the school’s decision and if the school had the authority to take that course of action.
