The Member of Parliament for East Rural St. Andrew, Damian Crawford, is rejecting reports that the fire which has ravaged a section of the constituency has left hundreds of millions of dollars in damage.

The fire has affected the communities of Mavis Bank, Flamstead, Craig Hill, Top Hill, Content, Lime Tree and Salt Hill.

On the weekend the President of the Jamaica Agricultural Society, Senator Norman Grant, said preliminary estimates suggest that householders and coffee farmers in those communities affected by the blaze, had lost as much as 5-hundred million dollars.

But sounding rather peeved this morning, Mr. Crawford says the claim is baseless.

Mr. Crawford also criticized those members in the affected communities who he says are guilty of using the media to exaggerate and embellish the situation.
