Law enforcement sources have told Nationwide News that a criminal investigation has been launched into circumstances Jodian Fearon death.

Sources say a law enforcement team has been assembled to pursue the matter to establish possible culpability for criminal negligence.

In the meantime, the University Hospital of the West Indies, UHWI, says it regrets the passing of Ms. Jodi Ann Fearon and expresses their condolences to her family and loved ones.

In a statement, the hospital says it will cooperate with the Health and Wellness Ministry in its probe into the incident.

It says the hospital’s team members went to the Andrews Memorial Hospital to assist the patient and wore personal protective equipment PPE, on Friday morning to accept Ms Fearon.

The UHWI is urging all private medical facilities to establish a protocol and an isolation area for patients that may have COVID-19.

It says it may be difficult to predict which patient may present to facilities with the virus.

It’s also recommending facilities consult with the UHWI prior to performing complex procedures that may result in blood loss and other complications which may require critical and advanced aftercare at UHWI during this global pandemic.

The UHWI says the resources may be stretched since the Hospital is managing a large number of confirmed or suspected COVID-19 cases.

The UHWI is also pleading with members of the public to donate well needed blood for these and other patients during this time.

It says the UHWI frontline staff remains ready, committed and available to assist all patients during  this novel crisis.
