The Police High Command says it will only impose curfews in exceptional cases.
Curfews restrict the movement of persons who enter communities and commit crimes, and then leave.
Police Commissioner Dr. Carl Williams says curfews allow the Police to be more effective in executing operations in a targeted community space.
The Commissioner says, they are seeking the understanding and cooperation of law abiding citizens whose movement may be affected by a curfew.
He says their actions are in the interest of the safety and security of citizens.
The Commissioner is assuring the public that the High Command will ensure all curfews are led by a Gazetted Officer.
He adds that during a curfew, provisions are made for the movement and access of students, essential services workers and other persons with legitimate reasons.
In that regard, the Police are encouraging those who fall within these categories to carry some form of identification to verify their area of work.
