Over 70 percent of the one hundred and 50 water supply systems managed by the National Water Commission, NWC, are being impacted by the ongoing drought.

That’s according to the NWC’s Acting Vice President of Operations, Dr. Phillipa Campbell-Francis.

She was speaking on Wednesday at the Office of Utilities Regulation, OUR’s, webinar on Jamaica’s water sector.

Dr. Campbell-Francis says the NWC produces 190 million gallons of water per day.

She notes that the Commission covers 90 percent of the island’s potable water network.

This network, she says, is heavily impacted by the ongoing drought conditions, as the NWC is producing a deficit of 10 to 15 million gallons of water daily.

Dr. Campbell-Francis says the eastern end of the island is predominantly impacted by the dry period.
