Principal of Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts, Dr. Nicholeen Degrasse-Johnson, says the institution is working to address deficiencies in its policies on sexual harassment.

She says one major concern is getting those with grievances to go through the proper channels.

Dr. Degrasse Johnson was addressing Wednesday’s sitting of Parliament’s Public Administration and Appropriations Committee, PAAC.

The Edna Manley College has been rocked in recent months by multiple allegations of sexual harassment against a male lecturer at the institution.

The fine arts institution is currently holding hearings on the matter.

Dr. Degrasse Johnson says the findings from those hearings and recommendations will be submitted to acting Education Minister, Karl Samuda, soon.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for South St. Catherine, Fitz Jackson, says he’s concerned that too many institutions in the country are being run like private group.

He says this makes it difficult for those with grievances to come forward.
