The Education Ministry is calling on the University of the West Indies, the UWI, Mona Campus to discontinue the practice of quoting fees in US dollars.

The fees being quoted in US dollars have resulted in significant increases in payments for some students.

State Minister of Education, Alando Terrelonge, says the practice is unacceptable.

Minister Terrelonge says he’s disturbed by reports that the educational future of some UWI Mona campus students is hanging in the balance because of the practice of quoting fees in US dollars.

He says the practice should be discontinued.

Minister Terrelonge says he’ll be meeting with the UWI Guild of Students to discuss the issue.

Minister Terrelonge says the Andrew Holness administration is committed to doing its best to ensure that education is not out of the reach of Jamaicans.
