Health and Wellness Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton says the government is constantly attempting to improve its messaging on COVID-19.

This follows the perspectives of some of the nation’s doctors yesterday who believe the messaging from the Ministry and the government has not been strong enough since the declaration of the community transmission phase of the virus.

Dr. Tufton who was speaking on Cliff Hughes Online this morning disclosed that they’ll be deploying several community health aides to help in the government’s messaging.

Yesterday the medical doctors also highlighted the need for the government to engage church leaders and other persons at the community level.

The Health Minister says they’ll be engaging community leaders.

In the meantime, the nation’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Jacquiline Bisasor McKenzie says it’s still important for the Ministry to continue it message on persons with co-morbidities who died from COVID-19.

This too follows an appeal from the doctors to the government to stop emphasizing when persons who die from COVID-19 have co-morbidities.

Dr. Bisasor McKenzie says the Ministry may need to strengthen its messaging on persons who aren’t suffering from pre-existing conditions.

The Health Minister also noted the need to highlight the data in relation to those in the vulnerable population.

And Dr. Tufton says the Ministry of Justice has already began looking at the Disaster Risk Management Act with the view to make amendments.

This follows concerns that the Act requires amendments to give the police more teeth to carry out enforcement against persons who aren’t adhering to the COVID-19 protocols.
