The Minister of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining, Phillip Paulwell, has announced that construction of a 7-billion dollar solar power plant will begin by next month.

Mr Paulwell says the 20-megawatt plant will boost the amount of renewable energy available to the national grid.

He says the construction of the solar power plant is part of government’s efforts to lower electricity costs.

On Wednesday, Mr Paulwell broke ground for the construction of a 10 billion dollar 36.3-megawatt wind farm at Munro, St. Elizabeth.

The Minister also launched phase three of the Wigton Wind Farm in Manchester — the latest phase is a 5 billion dollar investment.
