Minister of Finance, Dr. Nigel Clarke, says the government will consider reopening the compassionate grant after current applications have been satisfied.

More than 400-thousand people have applied for the one-time payment of $10,000.00.

Opposition Spokesman on Labour and Social Security, Horace Dalley had criticized the government for closing applications for the compassionate grant early.

Mr. Dalley says this was cruel and lacked compassion, as many vulnerable Jamaicans do not readily have access to online platforms.

However, Minister Clarke says the closure is a result of logistical challenges.

He says the government is processing the current applications, and making arrangements for payment.
