The Housing Agency of Jamaica, HAJ, says it has designed a reconfiguration plan to expand access at the main entrance of the Sandown Palms housing development in Portmore, St Catherine, to accommodate larger emergency vehicles.
The move comes amid concerns from home owners that the existing gate may not be wide enough to allow access for first responders.
In a statement on Friday, the HAJ says the reconfiguration will involve modifying a pedestrian gate and column leaf.
But it notes that Portmore Municipal Corporation and the Jamaica Fire Brigade formally approved the subdivision plan and gate design.
It says it has not received any written correspondence or formal instruction from either entity regarding the entrance gate.
Meanwhile, the HAJ is pushing back against other claims by home owners.
It says following its own investigation, there were no evidence of sewage ponding or mould issues within the development.
It adds that the drainage problems near the Phase One cul-de-sac were previously rectified and that no active flooding exists.
The HAJ says some remedial works are still being managed under its defect liability obligations, but scheduling has been temporarily affected by external factors.
The Agency has also addressed concerns about communication with residents and access to its offices.
It says queries concerning Sandown Palms were discussed at a specially convened meeting and responses were subsequently sent.
The HAJ says it has never restricted citizens from visiting its offices to conduct business or make enquiries.
The Agency is encouraging Sandown Palms residents to make arrangements with its representatives to discuss issues they may be experiencing.
The HAJ says it remains committed to providing quality and affordable housing for Jamaicans.
