The Ministry of Tourism has plans to formulate a health tourism policy for Jamaica.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Wellness as well as the Jamaica Promotions Corporation, JAMPRO, the Ministry of Tourism intends to develop a policy which will serve as a framework outlining the regulations, guidelines, and procedures for promoting and regulating medical tourism in the country.
Minister of Tourism, Edmund Bartlett emphasized the importance of developing the policy, stating that it is necessary to determine the parameters within which areas of health experiences can be improved to form part of Jamaica’s tourism product.
During a visit to the new Omega Medical Hospital in Negril, Minister Bartlett stated that similar operations should be established across Jamaica’s tourism hotspots to improve the country’s destination assurance framework.
He says, in furtherance of advancing brand Jamaica, all resort areas should have such locations to enable responses to various types of illness, accidents or any other misfortune which may affect visitors to the island.
